Entrance and Exit Loan Counseling

Direct Loan Entrance Counseling

All students who wish to borrow through federal student loan programs are required to complete entrance counseling. This process is required to ensure that student loan borrowers understand their rights, responsibilities and obligations they are assuming.

Should you fail to complete the entrance counseling process, your federal student loan will not disburse.

Federal Perkins Loan borrowers will be contacted by the Student Loan Office at West Virginia University regarding entrance counseling requirements for the Perkins loan.

Student's borrowing through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Student Loan program may complete the entrance counseling requirement for the Direct Subsidized / Unsubsidized Loan on-line or you may choose to fulfill this requirement by attending an entrance counseling session conducted by the West Virginia University Financial Aid Office.

If you satisfy your Direct Loan entrance counseling requirement by completing the Direct Loan Entrance Counseling process on-line, it must be done by you personally. The Financial Aid Office has the capability to retrieve your quiz results electronically from the Direct Loan Servicing Center. The government allows you three opportunities to successfully complete the quiz. If you are unable to complete the on-line quiz, you must complete the entrance counseling requirement through the Financial Aid Office.
