Transfer Students Departing WVU Checklist
- Students leaving West Virginia University and transferring to another educational institution must notify the Financial Aid Office that he or she is leaving so that any additional financial aid disbursements may be canceled. If these cancellations are not made in a timely manner, financial aid disbursements at your new school may be delayed.
- You should request that a copy of your FAFSA information be sent to your new school. You can make this request by calling the federal processor at 1-800-4-FED-AID. You will need to have your Student Aid Report handy when you call the federal processor. The federal processor will request your DRN--a unique number found ONLY on your copy of the Student Aid Report. You will also need to know your new school's School Code Number. You can look up their school code through the U. S. Department of Education's website.
- Contact the Financial Aid Office at your new school to determine if any other institutional applications are required. If one is required, ask them to forward one to you so that you can submit it as soon as possible.
- If you are interested in borrowing student loans at your new school, you should determine whether or not an additional loan application is required. West Virginia University processes student loans through the Federal Direct Student Loan Program and does not require a loan application in addition to the FAFSA. Other schools participate in the Federal Stafford Student Loan Program and require an additional student loan application that you may obtain from that school or a participating lender.
- If you are transferring from another college or university and you have been receiving a WV Grant or a Pennsylvania Grant, you should contact the respective State Grant Program to inform them of your transfer. You may contact the WV Grant program at:

The Pennsylvania Grant Program may be contacted at:

- If you have a previous Federal Stafford Student Loan, Federal Direct Student Loan or Federal Perkins Loan, you must complete the student loan exit counseling process. Contact the WVU Financial Aid Office for details about this requirement. This service will soon be available on-line.
- Please remember that the amount of financial aid eligibility you have is determined by each institution. The amount of financial aid you received at WVU may not be the same amount that you will receive at your new school.
