Veterans Called to Active Duty
This section provides information on how you, as a student of West Virginia University, will be affected by the Military Call-Up.

ACADEMICALLY: WVU Policy states:

• Students entering the armed forces of the United States may be granted a full refund of refundable fees (but no course credit) if the call comes before the end of the first three-fourths of the semester. If the call comes after that, full credit for courses may be granted if the student has passing grades at the time of departure. However, if the course is a competency-based course, the instructor would give a grade of "I"-incomplete and work with the student to develop a plan to complete the course requirements when he / she returns to school.
• Also, all teaching assistant / internships would be held for the student. The student can resume these positions when he /she returns to school.

FINANCIAL AID:

Students with loans who are in an in-school status, in-school deferment or grace period are not required to make payments on these loans. The loans will remain in its' current status for three (3) years. A student will be considered enrolled during this time of service. If a student has a Perkins Loan or Institutional Loan, contact a student loan officer in the Office of Student Accounts at 304-293-4006.

VA EDUCATIONAL BENEFITS:

All veterans called to active duty must contact the WVU Veterans Advocate or the Veterans Certifying Officer at 304-293-5242 in order for the notification to be reported to the VA Regional Processing Center in Buffalo, New York and to complete Exit Counseling. If a veteran is notified at the last minute, he / she must send an email to: Veterans@mail.wvu.edu .
