International/National Exchange Programs

Students usually participate in International or National exchange programs in one of two ways:
1. Through an out-of-state tuition waiver program that allows a student to pay tuition and fees directly to the school the student is temporarily attending, or

2. By paying tuition and fees at the home school while taking courses at another school.
An exchange program is evidenced by a written contractual agreement between two schools and the program must be accepted for credit by the home institution. (The program does not have to be one that is required by the home institution for it to be accepted for credit.)

Financial Aid for Transient and Study Abroad Programs

Students may receive financial aid for periods of attendance at other institutions as transient or study abroad students. However, there are federal regulations and institutional policies that determine program eligibility and student eligibility. It is recommended that students who are planning transient or study abroad experiences contact the Financial Aid Office for information regarding limitations and the procedures that must be followed to receive financial aid. Other sources of financial assistance specifically related to study abroad programs may be researched at the WVU Libraries and through the WVU Office of International Studies.
