Important Information About Financial Aid for Summer Session

- THE LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR SUMMER 2009 FINANCIAL AID IS FRIDAY, JULY 31, 2009!
- To be eligible for summer financial aid, students must meet specific enrollment requirements including a minimum of course hours. Undergraduate level students need to be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours and Graduate and Professional level students need to be enrolled for at least 3 credit hours to be considered for loans.
- Disbursement of summer financial aid will not occur until the start of the class that represents the minimum course load requirement. For example, an Undergraduate who takes a 3 hour class which starts on May 31 and takes another 3 hour class which starts on July 15 will not receive a disbursement of loan funds until July 15.
- Students applying for Direct Student Loans for summer are only eligible if they have not already borrowed the maximum loan amount during the academic year.
Freshman -$3500 Subsidized/$2000 Unsubsidized
Sophomore -$4500 Subsidized/$2000 Unsubsidized
Junior/Senior -$5500 Subsidized/$2000 Unsubsidized
Graduate/Professional-$20,500
- Many students will use Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), Graduate PLUS or Alternative Loans in summer.
- Only Pell eligible undergraduate students who were not full time during the Fall 2008 and/or Spring 2009 may receive Summer Pell grants.
- Other forms of assistance in summer, for example Federal Work-Study and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, are limited.
- Students must be registered for their summer classes before any financial aid will be processed. Students should allow two weeks from the date they register for classes for notification of eligibility.
- Students interested in summer financial aid must also complete:
1. 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This is available online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
2. Summer 2009 Request For Summer Financial Aid. This is available online on this website.
NOTE: Health Science students only need to complete a FAFSA form.
